bright star

i recently came across this movie on netflix. i was in the mood for a jane austen-like period piece and bright star kept being suggested to me. i decided to give it a try and absolutely fell in love with it. the movie centers around the brief love affair between fanny brawne and famous romantic poet john keats. their love letters became the inspiration for his poetry and his stardom.

Currently reading: Emma (Jane Austen)

I thought loved the movie, let's read the book. I'm in a Jane Austen state of mind. Just finished reading Pride and Prejudice, and fell in love with Mr. Darcy yet again.
By the way Mastepiece Classic just finished showing 3 Jane Austin movies, Emma, Persuasion, and Northanger Abbey. You can probably catch them online at pbs.com.
Highly recommend!

Water for Elephants - Sara Gruen......Highly recommend!

I recently finished reading the book "Water for Elephants" by Sara Gruen.
A circus, an elephant, a complicated love story, and memories...lots of memories.

This book is a real page turner, I couldn't put it down. It had been a long time since I've wanted to actually finish a book. Water for Elephants did it for me.

It's the story of the recently orphaned Jacob, who finds himself on a traveling circus. Here he encounters a whole new way of life that is absolutely fascinating. The story is articulated by the the elderly Jacob who is "either ninety or ninety-three". Throughout the book, we see glimpses of young Jacob at the circus, and elderly Jacob at his retirement home. It was an amazing ride, you get a vivid image of life in the circus, I read that the author did extensive research on traveling circuses.

A fun read, with all the right ingredients for a keeper.

Another incredible book!!

Hey everyone!!

I am really looking forward to start reading the Twilight Books. Sadly they don't sell them in English here in Peru, so I'll have to wait until February.

In the meantime let me tell you about this amazing book I just finished and enjoyed. It is called La Catedral del Mar by Idelfonso Falcones (it is an Spanish author but it has an English version called Cathedral of the Sea). The whole book is about how the people in Barcelona worked for years and years building this amazing Cathedral to honor the Virgen del Mar or Virgen Maria (Virgin of the Sea or Virgin Mary). The story is told around the life of a guy called Arnau Estanyol and how his devotion to the Virgin Mary, the love for his family and his desire for revenge, made his life sometimes a living hell and sometimes an amazing journey.

I really hope you take the time to read this book.

New Moon & Eclipse

Well according to Angela everyone else has caught or is catching on to the Twilight fad...
So in honor of that I am posting on the 2nd and 3rd book...
I love the 2nd book because it really brings Jacob into the picture and love the 3rd book even more because Edward is back and He and Jacob have to be in the same picture a lot more! They both make for a great and more evolved read from the first book. Bella and Edward's characters or getting more developed and the werewolves and Jacob's character really come into play. I love the stories behind Rosalie and Jasper coming out and I especially love the "Italy" scene. I am going to see the movie for the 2nd time tonight! Angela and I declare that when we have all read all 4 of the books... we need a Twilight Night! Hope you all enjoy... I have just started the 4th book and will let you know how it goes!
